Find Your Groove: Dance for Brain Health

August 8, 2026

Jersey has been encouraged to Find Your Groove as Dementia Jersey launches a new campaign highlighting the important role that movement - and particularly dance - can play in supporting brain health.

The campaign, which forms part of Dementia Jersey's wider Boost Your Brain initiative, officially launched on Friday 7th August 2026 with a lively dance event at Trenton Square, bringing music, movement and community together in the heart of St Helier. The launch featured talented dancers from Flair Entertainment Jersey, with the event also taking place as part of the Jersey Development Company's Hola Friday! event.

But the launch was just the beginning.

Why dance?

While dancing is often thought of simply as a fun and social activity, there is growing evidence that regular physical activity can play an important role in reducing the risk of dementia. Dementia Jersey's campaign highlights the connection between heart health and brain health, with regular movement forming an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

The organisation is encouraging Islanders to find a form of movement that they genuinely enjoy, because when exercise is fun, social and something we look forward to, it can become a regular part of everyday life.

And that's where dance comes in.

From energetic Latin styles and lively social dancing to gentle ballroom sessions, contemporary movement, ballet, fitness-based dance and everything in between, there really is something for everyone.

Whether you've always wanted to learn to dance, are looking for a new way to stay active, or are returning to a style you enjoyed years ago, Find Your Groove is all about finding movement that works for you.

Discover dance in Jersey

As part of the campaign, Dementia Jersey is directing Islanders to the Dancing in Jersey directory, which features more than 100 dance organisations across the Island.

Dancing in Jersey is proud to support the campaign by helping people discover the incredible variety of dance opportunities available locally, from classes and social dancing to fitness, performance and specialist dance groups.

The Find Your Groove campaign website also encourages people to choose something enjoyable and accessible, whether that means joining a regular dance class or simply putting on some music and dancing in the kitchen.

As Dementia Jersey puts it, small changes can make a big difference, particularly when they're enjoyable enough to become part of everyday life.

More than just exercise

One of the great things about dance is that it can bring together so many different aspects of wellbeing. You're moving your body, listening and responding to music, learning steps and patterns, and often connecting with other people at the same time. For many people, the social and creative elements are just as important as the physical activity.

And there is no requirement to be an experienced dancer: Find Your Groove is about finding a style, pace and environment that suits you.

Dementia Jersey's campaign is aligned with Alzheimer’s Research UK's Think Brain Health initiative and is supported by the Jersey Development Company and the Government of Jersey.

Ready to find your groove?

If the campaign has inspired you to give dance a try, there are more opportunities available across Jersey than you might think. From ballroom to Latin, ballet to contemporary, line dancing to pole fitness, social dancing to dance-based exercise, the Dancing in Jersey directory is the perfect place to start exploring.

So why not try something new, rediscover an old favourite, or simply put on your favourite song and have a dance?

Find your groove, and keep moving!
